ISLAMABAD: Total 4, 412 students across Pakistan have been sent abroad for PhD programme by Higher Education Commission but over 200 students did not return back to Pakistan after completion of their PhD programme .
According to sources, total 79, 554 students in Pakistan have been granted internal and external scholarships by HEC in 2015 while 2, 825 students had been sent to internal and external universities on PhD and Post Doctorate Scholarship.

Sources further added that 50, 296 students were provided with MS and MPhil scholarships as per PM Special Programme while 26, 433 students were awarded under graduate level scholarships in country’s educational institution according to UN Scholarship Net Programme.

Sources stated that Rs. 70 Lakhs to 1 crore are spent by HEC on one PhD scholarship however over 200 students did not return to Pakistan after completion of their PhD programme due to poor monitoring system and fear of unemployment.
