ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob reveals receiving security threats

ISLAMABAD – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Babar Yaqoob on Tuesday cited concerns over fake news circulating on social media casting doubts on transparency of elections.
Yaqoob was talking to media in Islamabad.
Yaqoob further revealed that electoral body was receiving threats. He confessed to existence of security challenges pertaining to much-anticipated elections.
“Polling time will expire at 6PM on Election Day. Media can’t announce [polls] result till 7PM”, ECP secretary told reporters. He added that returning officers (ROs) will forward election results through RTS system.
On issue of recovering Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) from drain in Lahore’s NA-125 Shafiqabad constituency, the secretary responded that probe into the matter was underway. He added, “NADAR has informed electoral watchdog that all recovered CNICs have expired long ago”.
Yaqoob stated that as many as 17000 polling stations have been declared sensitive across country whereas 1.6 million staff will perform election duties on July 25.
