Over 70 students held, 37 suspended from PU after clash

LAHORE: The police arrested over 70 students while 37 others were suspended from Punjab University after the clash on the varsity premises.

The arrested students have been shifted to an unknown location.

Though academic activities resumed, but the students continued to chant slogans against each other.

The hostel gates were closed due to the clashes. Meanwhile, the police forcibly closed the nearby shops.

DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf also visited Punjab University. The police continued the search operation and got vacated Hostel No 7.

Minister for Higher Education Ali Raza Gillani said that the names of 37 arrested students had been struck off.

Cases have been registered against the students under the ATA.
