Federal government unveils new digital media policy for advertisements and government commercials

ISLAMABAD - The government has decided to float official advertisements and commercials on social media under new Digital Policy.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting between journalists of social media and owners of YouTube channels, and Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad today.

Briefing media after the meeting, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said the Press Information Department has been directed to prepare a line of action and Standard Operating Procedures for YouTube channels across the country.

She said a new desk will be set up at the PID for provision of accreditation and registration cards to owners of YouTube channels in the country.

Highlighting significance of digital media, the Special Assistant said social media is rapidly replacing electronic media.

She said the government will impart special training to youth on usage of social media and digital technology. She said the government will activate youth.

During the meeting, the social media journalists briefed the prime minister about challenges being faced by media industry and digital technology in modern era.
