PTA blocks 98.3 million, verifies 147.34 million SIMs

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has verified 147.34 million SIMs (Subscriber Identity Modules) and blocked 98.3 million unverified SIMs.
Till May 15, 2016, the PTA had blocked 98.3 million unverified SIMs out of which 14.98 million SIMs have been unblocked so far after verification by biometric process.
SIMs which could not be verified were still blocked, a PTA official told APP on Monday.
He said there was an impression that there were some SIMs working that were not verified by biometric process.
He appealed the public that, if there was any such case that should be immediately reported to the PTA so that appropriate action could be taken against them.
However, the blocked SIMs could be activated once the owner provided biometric verification at the respective cellular company's office, he added. (APP)
