KP govt urged to bring Southern districts power system under CPEC

LAKKI MARWAT: Former federal minister Salim Saifullah Khan has urged the government that the electricity system for the southern district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may be brought under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project for also benefitting the people of those areas.

Talking to various delegations of elders here on Monday, the former minister claimed that the southern districts had been ignored by each government.

Thus, he suggested that entire electricity system of the southern district may be undertaken under the CPEC project, providing an opportunity to the entire stretch to get maximum benefit from the development initiatives of the mega scheme.

He was of the view that currently the entire power transmission system had gone outdated, causing frequent tripping and losses for national kitty and had exposed people of those areas to extended loadshedding hours.

Moreover, he added, with construction of the route, people of the area would have access to modern facilities of life, in addition to having vast opportunities to get jobs to earn livelihood in a respectable manner.

He also said the Kurram Tangi dam would herald green revolution in the area for irrigating vast area of southern districts for agriculture purpose.

He reiterated that his family would continue to work for the development of the Lakki Marwat and its issues would be highlighted at all forums, he added.

He said among other districts of the KP, Lakki Marwat was facing poverty and unemployment despite the fact youth of the area were gifted with excellent talent, therefore, he added, there was a needed to create job opportunities for them to earn livelihood and contribute towards the country's socio-economic development process.
