On Friday, India defeated Australia by five wickets in Mohali, causing Pakistan to lose its top position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) One-Day International (ODI) rankings. India currently holds the first position in the ODI rankings with a rating of 116, while Pakistan has slipped to the second position with a rating of 115.
Before the commencement of the Cricket World Cup 2023, India is scheduled to play two ODI matches against Australia. If Australia manages to defeat India in the remaining two matches, Pakistan could once again claim the top spot in the rankings. However, if the Australian team wins both matches, the Aussies will become the number one ODI team once again, entering the World Cup in excellent form.
It's worth noting that Pakistan had recently secured the number one spot in the rankings by defeating Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka in August.
However, due to their poor performance in the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan slipped to the third position in the ODI rankings. But when South Africa won a five-match ODI series against Australia in Australia, Pakistan reclaimed the top position in the ICC rankings. Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign on October 6th in Hyderabad, facing the Netherlands in their opening match.
