Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir is excited about the prospect of Babar Azam making a significant impact in the World Cup with his batting skills.
During an interview on an Indian TV channel, Gambhir singled out Babar Azam as the batsman to watch in this World Cup. This choice by the former Indian batsman sets Babar Azam apart from other renowned cricketers like India's Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Australia's David Warner, Steve Smith, New Zealand's Kane Williamson, and England's Joe Root.
According to Gambhir, "Babar Azam possesses all the qualities to shine in this World Cup. I haven't seen many players with his level of composure and timing. While we have cricketing greats like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Joe Root, Babar Azam stands out as an exceptional talent."
Babar Azam, Pakistan's captain, currently holds the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for one-day international (ODI) batsmen, with a remarkable rating of 857. In Test cricket, he is ranked fourth with a rating of 829.
He has maintained his status as the number one ODI batter for approximately 900 days. The Pakistan cricket team will commence their World Cup campaign on October 6 with a match against the Netherlands in Hyderabad.
The most highly anticipated match of the tournament between Pakistan and India is scheduled for October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with a massive crowd of 132,000 spectators expected to witness the clash.
