Hasan Ali's inclusion in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad came as a surprise, as he replaced the injured Naseem Shah for the tournament set to take place in India from November 5th to November 19th.
Pakistan's Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, described Hasan Ali's selection as "forced."
However, former cricketer Mohammad Asif expressed dissatisfaction with Hasan Ali's inclusion, suggesting that it was due to his friendship with captain Babar Azam and his association with a specific group of players, referred to as the "Roti Lobby" – a group known for sharing meals within the cricket circuit.
Asif claimed that such lobbies tend to favor their members in team selection. Mohammad Asif also criticized captain Babar Azam's batting approach, noting that while he respects Azam as a prolific batter, Azam tends to struggle in the power-play, which can create pressure on wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan.
Regarding the selection of Salman Ali Agha, Asif expressed his skepticism, stating that he does not consider him a player and believes his contributions are limited, often coming when the team has already amassed a significant number of runs.
