Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi left behind former Green Shirts bowler Mohammad Amir and became Pakistan's highest international wicket-taker among left-arm bowlers. The 23-year-old youngster achieved this feat during the 18th match of the World Cup against Australia in Bangalore on Friday.
Before the match against Australia, Shaheen Afridi had 259 wickets, which were equal to Amir's tally. He officially surpassed Amir with his first two wickets in this match, making him the top left-arm bowler for Green Shirts in terms of international wickets.
As of Friday, Shaheen Afridi had taken 264 international wickets. He has now overtaken Mohammad Amir, who has 264 wickets. Shaheen Afridi took 5 wickets on Friday, bringing his total international wickets to 264.
Shaheen Afridi has taken 264 international wickets in a total of 127 matches (145 innings), while Amir had 259 wickets in 147 matches (177 innings). Wasim Akram holds the record for the most international wickets among Pakistani bowlers with 916 wickets in 460 matches (532 innings).
During the 2019 World Cup, Shaheen Afridi achieved his best-ever 6/35 bowling performance against Bangladesh. He is only the second Pakistani player after Shahid Afridi to take 5 or more wickets in a World Cup match twice. His figures of 5/54 on Friday are the best by any bowler in the 2023 World Cup so far.
