ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday heard a petition filed by Jamaat-e-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq seeking accountability of 436 people named in the Panama Leaks.
JI’s counsel Tariq Asad Advocated contented before a two-member bench of the court led by Justice Ijaz Afzal.
Appealing the court to play its role for elimination of corruption from every government department, the lawyer requested the court to constitute a judicial commission in this regard.
Justice Ijaz Afzal said it is sole responsibility of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take steps against those possessing assets beyond their sources of income.
Adjourning the hearing for an indefinite period, the bench later issued notices to the federal government and NAB to respond in the case.
The Supreme Court has already served notices to 436 Pakistanis named in the Panama Papers.
