Several Afghanistan provinces may fall to Taliban: Report

KABUL - Some members of the Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of Parliament, said the security situation is deteriorating and that provinces will fall to the Taliban if government remains reluctant to pay attention to the safety of vulnerable areas.

The MPs decided to summon security officials over insecurity next Wednesday.

“They (security heads) are driving the country towards a crisis. Mr Ashraf Ghani is being wrongly briefed by either the defense minister or interior minister on security of provinces,” said Allah Gul Mujahid, an MP.

“Our youth are martyred every day and women become widows. Afghanistan’s people should take this seriously,” said Shakiba Hashemi, an MP.

“In 10 districts of Faryab, only police headquarters and centers of districts are under government’s control,” said Rangina Kargar, an MP.

Ministry of Defense meanwhile said insurgents are being suppressed by government forces’ operations in different parts of the country.

“We had many problems in Faryab but now the problems have been removed and at least 50 members of the enemy have been eliminated there,” Mohammad Radmanish, the Defense Ministry’s spokesman told TOLOnews.
