Pakistan and Russian Air Force vow to enhance defence collaboration

ISLAMABAD: Emerging Geo Political dynamics in the region have witnessed cordial relations between Pakistan and Russia in various fields including the defence sector.

Russia and Pakistan had bitter relations in past dating back to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan when Pakistan allying with US and West against the Russian onslaught.

However with changing geo politics Pakistan and Russia have come close to each other with Russia gradually opening up its defence industry for Pakistan.

Bilateral visits of the highest level defence dignitaries of both states have taken place in the recent past.

Russia is delivering Pakistan with the state of the art Mi 35 combat helicopters and the defence collaboration between the two states is likely to be enhanced further in coming days.

Pakistan Air Force has also shown interest in the latest Russian Su-30 Fighter Jets, however it is still premature to talk about the deal at this stage.

PAF Chief is recently on the visit of Russia on the invitation of the Russian Defence industry. Obviously such visit invitation is a hint that Russian defence and aviation industry is opening in up its products for Pakistan.

Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, has visited Air Base and aviation industrial complex in Moscow and monitored performance of modern fighter jet and other important military hardware.

During his visit to the Base, CAS was briefed about the role and tasks of Russian Air Force and was shown various aircraft on its inventory PAF's press release issued here Saturday stated.

PAF Chief appreciated professionalism and operational capabilities of Russian Air Force.

He highlighted the significance of having mutual training programs and conduct of Operational Exercises of the two Air Forces to benefit from each other experiences.

Later, he met aviation industry hierarchy of Russia for exploring multiple options with special regard to enhancing cooperation in technical fields.

The Air Chief highlighted existing opportunities of cooperation between two aviation industries.

He showed keen interest to enhance mutual technical cooperation.

Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman called on Colonel General Victor Bondarev, Commander-in-Chief Russian Federation Aerospace Force.

Both the dignitaries remained together for some time and discussed matters of professional and mutual interest.

During the meeting both the commanders agreed for increasing bilteral cooperation in particular and Aviation industry in general, and boosting aviation technology jointly.

Both Air Chiefs showed interest in bilateral operational exercises to benefit from each other experience.

The PAF Chief highlighted the contributions of Pakistan Armed Forces and particularly PAF's role in operation Zarb-e-Azb. Colonel General Victor Bondarev appreciated high standards of professionalism being set by PAF and highlighted the need learning from experiences.

Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, is on an official visit to Russian Federation on the invitation of Russian Federation Aerospace Force.
