Chinese foreign ministry spokesman briefing

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng said that Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang, as well as state councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi have respectively sent messages of condolence to Sri Lankan leadership to extend deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathy to the injured and families of the victims.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman said they also stressed that the Chinese government and people firmly stand by the people of Sri Lanka and firmly support the Sri Lankan government's effort to maintain national security and stability.

The spokesman said the Sunday's blasts were the worst acts of violence since the country's 30-year civil war between government troops and the Tamil Tiger rebels ended in 2009.
