Latif Khosa's party membership suspended by PPP

In Islamabad, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) took action on Friday by suspending the party membership of senior leader Advocate Latif Khosa.

This decision follows a show-cause notice that was issued to him a week ago for his representation of Imran Khan in various court cases. Advocate Khosa, who was a member of the PPP's Central Executive Committee (CEC), had been criticized by the party leadership for providing legal representation to Imran Khan, the leader of another political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), without prior approval from the PPP. The show-cause notice stated that he was defending Imran Khan in corruption cases where he had been convicted and also in a case related to the Official Secrets Act (1923).

Additionally, the notice mentioned Khosa's criticism of state policy regarding classified information during a speech at a lawyers' convention. Advocate Khosa was given a seven-day deadline to respond to the show-cause notice, with the possibility of disciplinary action, including the withdrawal of his PPP membership, if he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.

Notably, Khosa has been representing Imran Khan in various legal matters, including the Toshakhan case that led to Imran's imprisonment in August. Khosa, a prominent legal figure in the country, had expressed his intention to lead a movement of lawyers in response to what he perceived as mistreatment and humiliation faced by lawyers.

Furthermore, he had drawn parallels between the ordeal of being trapped in a malfunctioning elevator at the Islamabad High Court building, along with other lawyers, and the challenges faced by the broader population in Pakistan over the past 18 months, emphasizing the need for change.
