Chief Selector InzamamHaq explains rationale behind radical changes in World cup squad

On Wednesday, Pakistan unveiled their 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023, which will be held in India. Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq provided insight into the reasoning behind including Abrar Ahmed and Zaman Khan as reserves for the national cricket team.

Inzamam emphasized the importance of maintaining squad continuity, stating that the decision aimed to preserve stability within the team while recognizing the skills and potential of the current spinners in the lineup.

He explained the presence of Abrar Ahmed in the reserves, clarifying that they wanted to minimize excessive changes. Inzamam noted that the three spinners, Shadab Khan, Usama Mir, and Mohammad Nawaz, have been part of the team and possess the required talent.

He emphasized their need to work harder to play a crucial role in the middle overs. Regarding the absence of Hassan Ali during the 2023 Asia Cup, which led to Zaman's initial selection, Inzamam acknowledged Zaman's proficiency, especially in the death overs.

However, he stressed the importance of experience in major events like the World Cup, expressing the need for someone with prior experience in such tournaments.
