To combat the proliferation of counterfeit iPhones, phone manufacturers have implemented enhanced security measures for the packaging of the iPhone 15. This initiative provides both retail employees and consumers with a novel means of validating the authenticity of the device.
In a strategic move aimed at eradicating the counterfeit iPhone market, Apple has introduced an innovative invisible watermarking feature within its recently launched iPhone 15 series. This watermark remains hidden to the naked eye and can only be discerned when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light.
A tech researcher known as Majin Bu has disseminated a video on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which showcases an individual employing a UV light to illuminate the iPhone 15 box. This reveals not only watermarks but also a QR code, serving as a dual-layered authentication system to verify the genuineness of the product.
Despite the introduction of these security measures, concerns linger regarding the possibility of scammers replicating the watermark. However, the inclusion of a QR code adds an additional layer of protection, making it significantly more challenging for counterfeiters to emulate.
While Apple store patrons can rest assured about the authenticity of their purchases, individuals buying from the resale market or smaller vendors are at a heightened risk of falling victim to scams. This development underscores the importance of vigilance when procuring iPhones from alternative sources.
