In the ICC ODI Men's World Cup 2023 fixture between India and New Zealand at the HPCA Stadium, India's captain, Rohit Sharma, was forced to leave the field just after the 10th over. This happened when Rohit Sharma took a hit on his finger while attempting to stop a ball hit by Daryl Mitchell at mid-off. As a result of this injury, Rohit Sharma had to step off the field.
With Rohit Sharma sidelined, KL Rahul has taken over the captaincy of the Indian side. It's worth noting that Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain, was already unavailable due to an injury. India is currently facing New Zealand in a crucial match in the World Cup, and both teams have maintained an unbeaten record in the ICC World Cup 2023 thus far.
Earlier in the day, India won the toss and decided to bowl first against New Zealand in this high-stakes encounter.
As things currently stand, both India and New Zealand are unbeaten, occupying the top two positions in the tournament standings. However, New Zealand holds the higher position due to their superior net run rate when compared to the host nation.
