Breakthrough likely in historic talks between Afghan Taliban and government

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo separately met Afghan government and Taliban negotiators in Doha, and discussed the peace process and reduction in violence.
However, there was no announcement of any breakthrough in the talks ahead of Pompeo's departure for Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah told AFP that the Afghan government and the Taliban are very close to breaking a deadlock in talks.
