Pakistan Mobile Broadband connections touch unprecedented levels

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is witnessing a reasonable Mobile Broadband (3G/4G) growth as about 46 million users out of total 48 million are mobile broadband consumers, registering 21.6 per cent tele-density in this domain till September 2017.
A revolution did commence with the introduction of wireless internet connectivity on hand-held devices, particularly 3G, 4G/LTE.
About 45 million users out of total 48 million are mobile broadband consumers while remaining breakup according to technology consists of DSL with 1.5 million users, HFC with 51226 users, Wimax 155,747 users, FTTH 52749 users, EvDo 568,368 million and 7042 users use other means.
People are increasingly using mobile phones to access internet that accounts for 70 percent increase during the last year—a 13 percent hike in comparison to the previous year.
As per statistics issued by regluator - Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) here on Tuesday, there exists 141 million total mobile users in the country with 70.25 cellular mobile tele-density till the period mentioned.
The major contribution in broadband growth has been made by mobile segment as 3G and 4G subscribers reached 46 million.
Till the period, Ufone 3G users reached 5.4 million, Telenor users reached 10.7 million, Mobilink 3G users reached 13.64 million and Zong 8.9 million. The number of 4G users of Telenor are around 9 lac , Mobilink 1.3 million and Zong 4.6 million.
Government facilitating/supporting the broadband service providers through Universal Service Fund for proliferation of Broadband to the unserved areas, allocating new frequencies in the various bands for WiMAX and introducing other new wireless technologies.
Various operators are deploying new technologies such as WiFi, EVDO, WiMAX, Optical Fibre Cable, DSL and HFC for access provision to capture market share in the broadband sector.
