Mirwaiz under house arrest in Srinagar

In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have placed the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest in Srinagar.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been confined to his Nigeen residence ahead of proposed protest after Juma prayers announced by the Joint Resistance Leadership against the custodial killing of a school principal, Rizwan Asad.

The authorities have deployed Indian police personnel in strength outside the main gate of the residence of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to prevent him from venturing out.

Meanwhile, Indian troops launched massive cordon and search operations in Shopian, Baramulla and Bandipora districts on Friday. The Indian forces’ personnel caged people into their houses while gunshots were heard in these areas.

On the other hand, the troops continue cordon and search operations on the third consecutive day, today in Hajin area of Bandipora district.
