Chinese authorities in the Xinjiang province have taken a major step to eliminate terrorism in the region by asking the citizens to keep a surveillance app on their phones which will allow frequent monitoring.
The law enforcement agencies claimed that they will be enabled to detect extremism-related videos, photos, e-books and documents from the smartphones of Muslim minority with this spyware app, according to Mashable.
The notice was sent out through WeChat in which users were given a QR code to download and keep the surveillance app on their phones. Reports claimed that deleting or not installing the app could result in harsh consequences. The locals will be asked to delete the files if authorities found any terrorism-related content on their phones.
