KPK-Sindh at odds over levy of infrastructure Cess on imports 

PESHAWAR: (APP) Director General Excise and Taxation Peshawar, Nasir Khan has agreed with the reservations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) over levy of Infrastructure Development Cess by KP government on imports.

According to a press release issued here Thursday, DG Excise and Taxation also apprised the business community that Chief Minister KP, Pervez Khattak has written a letter to Federal Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar requesting him to direct Sindh government for not collecting the same tax in Sindh.

This he said while talking to a delegation of business community which called on him at his office. Acting President KPCCI, Ammad Rashid was leading the delegation.

During the meeting, Ammad Rashid suggested that unless Sindh government agrees over non-collection of imports for KP, no tax should be collected in our province.

He said the business community of KP will not accept double taxation. The delegation members said on the one hand KP government is offering Rs. Seven billion incentives while on the other hand intends to collect Rs. 750 million through levy of Infrastructure Development Cess.

They said if KP government wants to collects this tax, it has to stop Sindh government from collecting the same because businessmen cannot afford to pay double tax.

Acting president KPCCI said KP has suffered a lot due to terrorism and the biggest problem for people of this region is unemployment.

If government imposed heavy taxation, this will affect business activity and will affects efforts for creation of new jobs and other opportunities, they added.
