ISLAMABAD - Karachi Kings Captain Imad Waseem stirs the first controversy of the PSL 2020.
Pakistani all-rounder and Karachi Kings’ captain, Imad Wasim, has reportedly apprised match referee of possible ball-tampering during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this year.
During a pre-tournament meeting with referee Roshan Mahanama, Imad accused Wahab Riaz (Peshawar Zalmi), Ravi Bopara (Karachi Kings), and Sohail Khan (Quetta Gladiators) of ball-tampering.
The Karachi Kings’ captain requested officials to constantly monitor these players during the PSL tournament.
Imad Wasim has reportedly suggested a harsh penalty for those involved in the act:
If any team or players are caught doing this, their captain should be banned for the offense.
In response, Roshan Mahanama said that match referees and TV umpires will keep a sharp eye on players during the PSL.
The Sri Lankan match referee asserted that all incidents of ball-tampering and spot-fixing will be dealt with according to laws.
In an interview with a foreign journalist, Imad Wasim commented on Sharjeel Khan making a comeback after serving a two and half year ban:
He [Sharjeel] is returning to cricket after a long time and that too at the biggest event. He should be given time. But the way he batted in the practice match was quite satisfactory.
Imad further added:
I feel for those who make such blunders. Cricket is our bread and butter and we can’t earn doing anything else. I can only feel for them because I know the sort of mental, physical and emotional pressure an affected family goes through in such circumstances because one individual made a mistake.
