No need to declare Tax evasion, Nationality, crime to be MP

ISLAMABAD:Following the amendments made in the Election Act 2017 in the name of electoral reforms, there would be no need to declare if the aspiring and incumbent public representatives were tax evaders, loan defaulters, facing criminal charges or dual nationals.

As many as 19 declarations on oath including tax record, profession, education and loan which were compulsory for a candidate in the past have been deleted in the newly-passed law, Elections Act 2017.

The declarations deleted from the Election Act 2017 also include nationality of the aspiring candidates, properties, income and cases registered against them.

Following the changes, a path has been paved to avert disqualification during the scrutiny of nomination papers or after becoming a lawmaker.

According to the documents obtained by the 92 News, the candidates would now be bound to provide property and income record.APP/AFP
