FBR announced stern action against non filers of income tax returns

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday warned that a stern action would be taken against those who had not filed income tax returns by December 15.

According to the FBR sources, work was initiated to suspend the mobile phone numbers and utility connections of the non-filers.

“Those who did not file their annual income tax returns have not fulfilled their responsibility. They will now face an action,” the sources said.

“The original deadline for filing income tax returns was September 30, 2022 which the FBR had extended thrice,” they added.

“The salaried persons, businessmen, and association of persons are among the tax payers,” they stated.

“The corporate entities, whose financial year ended on June 30, are required to file their tax returns of 2022 by December 31 next,” they asserted.

It is to be noted here that a section B114 was introduced in the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 through Finance Act, 2022.

The ordinance includes deactivation of the SIM cards of the non-filers. It also includes the suspension of their electricity and gas connections.

Under the ordinance, if the income tax returns are filed, the FBR or the commissioner can order to restore the suspended SIM cards and electricity and gas connections.
