LAHORE (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Wednesday gave approval to setting up of Punjab Road Safety Authority.

Addressing the meeting held here Wednesday, he said Punjab Road Safety Authority was being established for safety on roads. He said draft of Punjab Road Safety Authority had been prepared and speedy progress was needed for its establishment.
He said setting up of the authority was need of the hour. He said in the first phase Road Safety Project would be launched in Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad. He said road safety could be ensured through fitness of vehicles, training of drivers and improvement in licensing system.
The Chief Minister directed that steps should be taken expeditiously for setting up of the authority and all concerned departments should work in a coordinated manner. He said setting up of Vehicles Inspection & Certification System (VICS) should be completed within stipulated period.

During the meeting, Swedish expert Fedrik Gustafsson gave a detail briefing on improvement of road safety system.
