Pakistan left behind India in field of research, stands beside China in research technology: Report

ISLAMABAD – The Former Minister for science and technology. Atta-Ur-Rehmansaid that Pakistan has left India behind in the field of Research and nowstands beside China in progress towards research technology Dr. Attarevealed the fact during the international conference on “Endorsing HealthScience Research” held at Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium, Ojha Campus ofthe Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

Dr. Rehman informed the members of the conference that due to theestablishment of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistanthe research field has witnessed a significant boost. He said that thebudget allocated for research and technology has been raised from 1 millionrupees to 20 million rupees.

The former minister advised that Pakistan should increase the budget of theprivate research sector as the countries who are focusing on privateresearch are progressing rapidly.

He stated, *“China spends 60 percent on its private research sector andcountry like Singapore with 5.5 million population is exportingapproximately 330 billion dollars due to which GDP of Singapore is morethan the Great Britain which was, in fact, a colony of the latter in theolder times”*

Dr. Atta said Pakistan should focus on the trading and exporting of scienceand technology items. He mentioned that the country has been at a greatloss by ignoring science and technology.
