CJP proposes constitution of 'council' on Diamer-Bhasha Dam

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has said the construction of water reservoirs is a collective responsibility of the nation.
Talking to the participants during first session of the second day of International Symposium on Creating a Water Secure Pakistan in Islamabad on Saturday, he said all stakeholders should move forward to achieve this goal.
He said there should be a council regarding Diamar Bhasha Dam. He said WAPDA is an important institution regarding water storage but this responsibility should not be laid merely on it.
At the end of the first session shields were distributed among the speakers.
Addressing the concluding session of the two-day international symposium on "Creating Water-Secure Pakistan", Chief Justice of Pakistan said that availability of water needs to be ensured as Pakistan is facing water scarcity.
The communiqué issued after the symposium says that an effective mechanism should be formed for the management of new water reservoirs. It says that an institutional framework should be formed to address the environmental issue. Water conservation should be ensured through a regulatory mechanism. Economic issues for construction of water reservoirs should be the top priority of the government. The communiqué says that awareness should be created through education in order to deal with the challenges of water scarcity.
