Pakistan government takes major steps over Gilgit Baltistan autonomy

ISLAMABAD - Federal Government has approved Gilgit Baltistan reforms 2018 and delegated more powers to the Provincial Government.

This was stated by Minister Law Aurangzeb Khan and Advisor to Chief Minister on information Shams Mir at a joint News conference in Gilgit.

Law Minster said under new reforms name of Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly has been changed as Gilgit Baltistan Assembly.

It will legislate on all subjects as exercised by other provincial assemblies in the country.

He said Gilgit Baltistan council will now function as advisory body.

Advisor Shams Mir said under reforms, sessional representation has been given to Gilgit Baltistan in ECNEC, NFC and other federal institutions.

He said name of Chief Court Gilgit Baltistan has been changed as Gilgit Baltistan High Court and strength of its judges has been increased from five to seven. The people of GB now can fight their cases in High Court, Supreme Court and subordinate courts in Pakistan.

He said PML (N) Government has fulfilled its promise made with public by introducing Gilgit Baltistan reforms by taking on board all stake-holders.
