Electricity prices in Pakistan to increase further

Bad news for the people as electricity prices are expected to rise further.According to reports, hike by Rs2.5 per unit is expected in power rates for the consumers of power distribution companies except Karachi-Electric (K-Electric) while Rs1.49 per unit hike is expected in the rates for the consumers of K-Electric.

*Both Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and the K-Electric have separately submitted their applications for increase in the rates under the monthly fuel adjustment for the month of May. *

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority* (**NEPRA) will hear the petitions on July 5.*

*According to the CCPA, over 11 billion units of electricity was produced in May, out of which 26.96 was produced from water; 16.78 per cent from coal; 1.96 from furnace oil; 10.35 per cent from gas; 24.33 per cent from imported LNG and 12.56 per cent from nuclear fuel. *
