UN Human Rights Council 'expresses regret' over US withdrawal

UNITED NATIONS: United Nations Human Rights Council has expressed regrets and disappointment over the Trump administration’s announcement that United States has withdrawn from the Geneva-based body as Council alleging that biased against Israel and in need of major reform.

UN human rights chief Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein said the election of a new member state to replace the United States would take place as soon as possible to fill the vacant seat.

Speaking hours after the US move, President of the 47-member Council, Vojislav Suc said the poll would take place once US notification of withdrawal is formally received.
