Punjab Information & Technology Board (PITB) conducted a workshop on "Innovative approaches to tackle health challenges faced by Punjab" at Arfa Software Technology Park the other day.
The workshop aiming at learning from the success stories of McKinsey & Company's interventions in the developing world was attended among others by the Chairman PITB, Dr Umar Saif, Secretary Primary & Secondary Healthcare Syed Najam Shah, Dr Victor Hediger, Dr Panco Georgiev and Taimoor Khan of the McKinsey & Company.
Dr Saif shared insights from PITB on current digital health initiatives while the team from McKinsey & Company discussed innovative approaches and experiences from other countries, such as interventions in the area of Lady Health Workers (LHWs) and tertiary healthcare methodologies.
Dr Saif apprised the participants of major initiatives taken by the PITB to improve health sector in Punjab. He said, "We are working on more than 20 health projects in Punjab. Dengue tracking system is the smart phone based application that helps monitoring of dengue tracking staff and larva killing activities. The Disease Surveillance Program collects data of 26 communicable diseases from all public hospitals of the province and also publishes a weekly bulletin," he added.
He said, other provinces such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were also showing interest to replicate this programme. "Smart monitoring and bio-metric attendance system introduced by the PITB in public hospitals of Punjab is another landmark on our achievements.
Mr Victor Hediger appreciated the work of PITB and hoped for vast collaborations in future. He emphasized the need for improvement in child and mother care.
