Congo Virus: How the disease is spread?

Congo Virus: How the disease is spread?

LAHORE, Aug 21 (APP): Congo virus is not very dangerous for the

infected animals as they can cured through nominal support or

anti-biotic treatment at veterinary centers.

However,it becomes very dangerous when transmitted to human-beings,

said vice-chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Prof Talat Naseer Pasha while talking to APP here on Sunday.

He said that the current hot and humid rainy season is ideal for

its breeding, and precautionary measures should be taken at all costs.

He dispelled an impression that people could contract Congo virus by touching the infected sacrificial animals or going near them.

He said that Congo virus is transmitted through wounds only, and not

by touching the infected animals.

He appreciated the efforts of the Punjab government for on-time spray

at animal markets, particularly at the places where sacrificial and other animals are being brought from Attock and Chakwal areas, which are comparatively more prone to the virus.

On the other hand, Principal Post-graduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Prof Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab said that Congo virus was more dangerous than cancer and it grows in the skin of goats and other such animals.

He said people should be very careful on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.

Prof Ghias said that Congo virus is an inhabitant of African

countries which is created from tucks living in the skins of goats, cows, buffalos and camels. These tucks suck blood of these animals.

The Congo virus patient suffers from nuisance, fever, hunger,

weakness and swelling of eyes. He or she also suffers from defficency of white cells immediately and starts bleeding, which causes death.

He said that Congo is fast-spreading disease all-over the world so

we should be very careful about it.
