ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is going to start fencing border with Iran next week,a senior Pakistani Army Commander says.
Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa Commander of the Southern Commandrecently made the remarks during an international seminar in south westernPakistani city of Quetta.
“Control and management of borders is very essential,” said General Bajwa.
He went on to say that such step will also help government of Balochistanto control smuggling.
Pakistan is already putting fence on border with Afghanistan, the Pakistaniarmy commander said, adding that so far about 370 kilometers of the fencingproject has been completed.
Iran and Pakistan share 950 km of the border linking Pakistan’s BalochistanProvince to Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province.
Earlier spokesperson of the Pakistan Army, Major General Asif Ghafoor hadtold the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that Pakistan and Iran wereconsidering fencing the common border to stop terrorists from carrying outtheir activities in border regions.
