Foreign Secretary Syrus Qazi expressed Pakistan's lack of astonishment in response to Canada's accusations regarding the alleged involvement of the Indian government in the assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia this June. During a media interaction, Qazi conveyed that Pakistan viewed the developments in Canada with a sense of expectation rather than surprise.
This statement came as part of his official duties while accompanying caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar during their five-day visit to the United States to participate in the 78th United Nations General Assembly session.
Emphasizing Pakistan's perspective, the foreign secretary highlighted that his nation found nothing particularly unconventional in the allegations made by the Canadian Prime Minister. He pointed to Pakistan's previous apprehension of an Indian naval officer, Kulbhushan Yadav, who was captured in Balochistan in March 2016 and identified as an operative of the Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). In his view, India was actively involved in destabilizing Pakistan, and Qazi affirmed, "If anyone in the world is aware of Indian activities, it is us, Pakistan."
On the other side of this international dispute, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau maintained that his government was diligently pursuing credible evidence linking agents from New Delhi to the murder of the Sikh separatist leader. India swiftly dismissed these allegations as absurd, leading to heightened tensions in the diplomatic arena. The exchange underscores the complex web of international relations and the ongoing challenges of diplomacy in the modern era
