Sanam Javed Khan, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist, faced a second arrest shortly after her release from Kot Lakhpat Jail in connection with the May 9 riots. The PTI activist had been accused of contributing to the law-and-order disturbance and attacking Jinnah House following the arrest of PTI's leader, Imran Khan, on May 9. She was rearrested outside the prison, this time in a different case.
Earlier in the day, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had issued a release order for Sanam Javed Khan. These release orders were granted following the approval of surety bonds related to her case, specifically the May 9 riots case in which she had previously been granted bail.
The events of May 9 saw violent clashes erupting throughout Pakistan after the arrest of former Prime Minister and PTI chief, Imran Khan, at the Islamabad High Court. Protests unfolded in various cities, both major and remote, with PTI party workers expressing their discontent over their leader's arrest.
Regions such as Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad called upon the armed forces to ensure law and order during these protests.
