Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has disclosed that he maintains regular contact with the Director of the national men's team, Mickey Arthur. During an interview on Haarna Mana Hay, Amir did not divulge the details of his discussions with Arthur regarding his potential return from retirement in international cricket.
However it seems that his fans might see him in the squad after the World Cup. Amir expressed his strong bond with Arthur, both professionally and personally, mentioning their recent time together at Derbyshire County.
When questioned about whether Arthur had encouraged him to reconsider his retirement, Amir responded with a brief "That is personal." Amir's last appearance in a One Day International (ODI) for Pakistan dates back to October 2019 against Sri Lanka in Karachi. In 2020, he retired from international cricket due to disagreements with the team's management at the time.
Pakistan's Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, clarified the conditions for Amir's potential return to the national team. Inzamam emphasized that domestic cricket performance is a crucial factor for selection.
He noted that while Amir had retired from international cricket, the door to the Pakistan cricket team remained open for him, provided he excelled in first-class cricket. Inzamam made this statement while announcing the squad for the ICC World Cup 2023.
Additionally, former captain Moin Khan praised Amir's cricketing prowess, highlighting his strong performance in various leagues. Moin expressed the view that if there was a need for Amir and an opportunity for his comeback, he should certainly return to the national team, acknowledging Amir as both a great cricketer and a Pakistani.
