Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, made a significant announcement on Friday during the Riyadh Summit. He called for the creation of a Palestinian state, emphasizing that it should be established within the borders of 1967, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.
Addressing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the summit, the Saudi crown prince expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Gaza. He particularly highlighted the severe toll this violence was taking on innocent civilians.
Mohammed bin Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia's strong stance against the targeting of civilians. He stressed the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law and called for an immediate halt to military operations that were causing harm to civilians and essential infrastructure, thereby directly impacting their lives.
Furthermore, he called for the creation of conditions that would lead to stability and a lasting peace. This peace, he noted, would not only bring about a just solution but also enable the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of 1967. The ultimate goal, as he articulated, was to achieve security and prosperity for all parties involved.
Before making this announcement, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed leaders and delegations attending the summit as they arrived at the venue in Riyadh, adding an important diplomatic dimension to the event.
