In a meeting with his Russian counterpart in Qatar, China's special envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, attributed the cause of the Israel-Gaza crisis to the lack of guarantees for Palestinian rights.
During the initial leg of his regional tour, Zhai Jun arrived in Qatar, where he reaffirmed China's alignment with Russia's efforts to de-escalate the Gaza crisis. He emphasized that both China and Russia share the same position on the Palestinian issue.
Zhai Jun's statement highlighted that the root cause of the current situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the absence of guaranteed legitimate national rights for the Palestinian people. Notably, this statement did not reference the Gaza-based militant group, Hamas.
This crisis emerged following an incident on October 7, when Hamas militants entered southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, resulting in casualties. In response, Israel conducted air strikes, imposing a siege on the Gaza Strip, affecting its 2.3 million inhabitants.
