Construction of LNG terminals to help meet growing demand of energy, gas: PM

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says LNG terminals will help to meet the growing demand of energy as more gas-based power plants are coming online.

This he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of second LNG terminal at Port Qasim in Karachi on Monday.

The terminal has been completed in a short time at a cost of 50 billion rupees.

The Prime Minster said construction of LNG terminals will boost economy and industry in the country and more terminals will be set up in future.

He said that the country is on the path of development and the industry is growing with 5.3 percent GDP which is expected to rise to 6 percent in the next financial year.

The Prime Minister said the government has successfully completed all the projects that we had started and completion of second LNG terminal in a short time is also a proof.

He said the terminal will help overcome the gas shortage in the country that had affected consumers, industries and fertilizers sector.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said a coal based power plant of 1300 megawatt is under construction while more plants are also in pipeline.

He said that three gas based power plants will soon be initiated in the country.

He said the demand for LNG is increasing and setting up of the second terminal without government guarantee is manifestation of confidence of the market.
