ISLAMABAD, (APP):  Senate urges government to hold population census before elections

 

The Senate Thursday adopted unanimously resolution urging Federal government to comply with constitutional provision concerning Council of Common Interests (CCI) and ensure holding of population census as soon as possible before the next general elections.

 

The resolution presented by the leader of the house, Raja Zafrul Haq urges government to hold meeting of CCI on regular basis, establishing its permanent Secretariat and timely sumbmision of its reports to the parliament covering all important aspects including status of implementation of decision.

 

It urges the government to include the issue of construction of water reservoirs in the agenda of every meeting of the CCI.

 

The resolution recommends that CCI should play its positive role to impress upon the provinces to achieve the Sustainable Development goals especially in the fields of climate change and education and to provide assistance to the federating units in making strategies towards the achievement of SDGs.

 

The resolution says the progress in China Pakistan Economic Corridor should be included in the agenda of every meeting of CCI.

 

CCI should monitor the distributions system of Zakat in the country, the resolution says.

 

It urges upon the chief Minister to rigorously attend the meeting of  the CCI and highlight all the issues of provinces.

 

The resolution reiterates that the final agenda of the meetings should be brought into the Knowledge of Parliament as well as the provincial assemblies before conduct of every meeting of the CCI.
