IOK By Elections: Hurriyat Leaders call for boycott

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik have jointly appealed to the people to boycott so-called by-election scheduled to be held in Islamabad district, Indian occupied Kashmir on June 22.

The two leaders of the territory in a joint statement issued in Srinagar, on Monday, said that India used election as a means to exploit the Kashmiris' right to self-determination, reported KMS.

The leaders maintained that the voting in these so-called elections would be betrayal to the blood of thousands of martyrs, who laid down their lives for the freedom cause.

They questioned the legality of the elections when the entire occupied territory was presenting a look of a big army camp.

Meanwhile, Indian police arrested the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik in Batmaloo area of Srinagar. He has been shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar.

The Chairman of his Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement issued in Srinagar denounced nocturnal raids by police on the residences of Hurriyet leaders and activists in Srinagar and said that Indian state-sponsored terrorism had turned the lives of the Kashmiris a hell.

Shutdown was observed in Pulwama and Baramulla districts against the recent killing of three youth by Indian troops during a siege and search operation in the territory.

All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road in the two districts. The troops killed one youth in Ladoo area of Pulwama, yesterday and two youth in Bomai area of Sopore on Friday.
