Federal Govt investigating video leaks issue: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Expressing deep displeasure over leaking videos of under-trail prisoners, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday informed the National Assembly that the Federal Government was ready to provide full support to investigate the matter.
Speaking in the House, the minister said an inquiry into video leak case of Khalid Shamim, who remained in Adalia Jail for some time, was in progress and would be finalized soon.
Assuring full support to the Sindh government to probe the recent video leaks of under trail prisoners, he said such activities should be curbed as they affected judicial proceedings and promoted media trials.
He said three videos of prisoners were leaked in the recent past. It was the responsibility of provinces to hold inquiry into the matter. The first such case was reported in a Balochistan jail and that provincial government was responsible to probe it, he added.
The minister said the Interior Ministry would provide all support to the Sindh Government to investigate video leaks.
The Interior Ministry, he said, had written a letter to the Sindh Government offering support in that regard and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had also been asked to play its role.
He said instead of political point scoring "we must come together and devise away forward to curb such incidents."
Minister for Finance and Revenue Mohammad Ishaq Dar said the members during speeches talked about BISP and NFC award and he had taken notes.
He said that he would respond to all points raised by the members during the cut motions speeches.
