Casualties increased in suicide bombing attack in KP

PESHAWAR – Four people, including three policemen, were martyred and 10 were injured after two suicide bombers stormed a tehsil compound in Khyber district on Thursday.
The attack took place in the Bara neighborhood of tribal district, which borders Afghanistan. Police said one of the suicide bombers blew himself up at the gate of the compound, which house a police station and other government offices, while the suicide vest of the other assailant went off after the police shot him.
The attack came hours after militants of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan attacked a checkpost in Peshawar, leaving two police officers dead and wounded two others.
IG KP Akhtar Hayat told media that police have received an alert about the possible attack on July 13, adding that security measures were taken following the alert.
Rescue officials said the injured people have been shifted to hospital for treatment while security forces have cordoned off the area to collect evidence.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly denounced the explosion at Bara Bazaar in Khyber District.
In a statement, he commiserated with the bereaved families. He directed to provide best possible medical treatment to those injured in the blast. He said the policemen thwarted the evil intentions of the terrorists by stopping the suspects and risking their lives. He said the personnel of law enforcement agencies risk their lives to ensure public safety.
