Election Commission of Pakistan not interested in Reforms: Government Minister

ISLAMABAD (APP): The Sub-Committee of Parliament on Electoral Reforms has castigated the Election Commission on delay in purchase of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and establishment of the system for an experiment of the machines in the upcoming bye elections.
The meeting of the committee was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Zahid Hamid, at Parliament House and reviewed progress of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and ECP on electoral reforms.
During the meeting, the committee unanimously observed that prima facie ECP was not interested to do electoral reforms, said Zahid Hamid talking to media after the meeting of committee.
He said that the committee also could not final the draft of electoral reforms laws due to the absence of the Secretary Election Commission.
Zahid Hamid said that the issue of displaying of assets detail on the website of Election Commission will be discussed on Friday.
He said that the committee wanted to bring unified election laws and rules jointly in the House.
He said Election Commission of Pakistan has also submitted its opinion on unified elections Laws Act.
Dr Arif Alvi had presented analytic report of Philippine's elections commission to the committee.
