SANGHAR – A nail-biting contest is expected between Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional in the by-election for PS-81 (Sanghar-Mirpurkhas) to be held on Thursday (today).
Jam Mada Ali will be representing Pakistan Peoples Party whereas Jam Nafees Ali is contesting elections from the platform of Pakistan Muslim League Functional, both belonging influential families of Sindh.
The polling for the vacant seat of Sindh Assembly started at 8:00 am and will continue till 5:00 pm without any formal break.
A total of 16 candidates are in the run for the by-elections but political analysts are eyeing a cut-throat tussle between the ‘Jam’ duo.
According to Election Commission officials, the constituency is divided into four sub-divisions -Sinjhoro, Sindhuri, Sanghar and Jam Nawaz Ali – and a total of around 139,000 voters are registered. “A total 122 polling stations are in this area and not a single one is ‘normal’. All either are ‘most sensitive’ or ‘sensitive’ polling stations,” said an election commission official.
