KABUL – In Afghanistan, Election Commission has delayed the results ofPresidential election. The head of the country’s Election Commission HawaAlam Nuristani, said in a press conference in Kabul today that delay wouldfurther ensure the transparency of the electoral process and restore thepeople’s confidence in it.
She said unfortunately, because of some technical issues and fortransparency we could not announce the results based on the electiontimetable.
Meanwhile, election officials reported troubles from the beginning incollecting and transferring massive amounts of information to the main IECcomputer server from biometric devices used to record voter fingerprintsand pictures.
A time-consuming exercise of identifying fraudulent votes was cited asanother major factor for the slow data entry.
The commission vowed to release the preliminary results as soon as possiblebut did not give a possible date.
