Trump Used Trade Leverage to Help End India-Pakistan Conflict: White House

*Washington *– White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has reiteratedthat U.S. President Donald Trump played a decisive role in helping defusetensions between Pakistan and India earlier this year, using trade as astrategic tool to bring both sides back from the brink of war.

Addressing a press briefing in Washington on Tuesday, Leavitt said Trumpwas *“very proud”* of brokering peace after the *April 22 Pahalgam attack*,which triggered *Operation Sindoor* and escalated tensions between thenuclear-armed neighbors. During the flare-up, Pakistan reportedly shot downsix Indian warplanes, raising fears of a full-scale conflict.

*“For India and Pakistan (conflict), he (Trump) used trade in a verypowerful way as leverage to bring that conflict to an end,”* Leavitt toldreporters.

She emphasized that President Trump sees American economic and diplomaticstrength as key instruments in resolving global disputes.

*“I know he’s very proud of all of these achievements, and I know he’s veryhonored to serve as the President of the United States and to restore peacearound the world,”* she added.

Leavitt further highlighted Trump’s broader foreign policy record, sayinghis administration’s efforts had contributed to the *closing of sevenconflicts worldwide*, including progress in the *Russia-Ukraine war*.

*“We’ve seen it with the end of the conflict between India and Pakistan, which could have resulted in a nuclear war if we had not had a Presidentwho believed in the strength and the leverage that comes with the job ofbeing the President of the United States of America,”* she noted.

The White House maintains that Trump’s foreign policy relies on projectingU.S. economic and military power to demand respect from allies, partners, and adversaries alike — a strategy it credits with averting crises acrossmultiple regions.
