The national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines, is currently facing operational challenges stemming from a fuel shortage. This situation has created an opportunity for private airlines to capitalize on the disruption in PIA's flight operations.
Private airlines have swiftly seized this opportunity by significantly raising their fares. Domestic flight prices have surged, with routes such as Lahore-Karachi now commanding prices of up to Rs49,000 per seat. The one-way fare from Karachi to Islamabad ranges from Rs55,000 to Rs61,000.
These developments have transpired in the context of PIA's domestic flight schedule being severely affected for a week, resulting in long queues of passengers seeking alternatives.
A spokesperson for a private airline attributed the significant difference in demand and supply to the sudden influx of passengers.
Simultaneously, the financial troubles at PIA are escalating, with 35 domestic and foreign flights being canceled. The supply of fuel has not resumed, leading to the disruption of schedules for numerous domestic and foreign flights across the country.
